Parsley supports three important areas with corporate charitable contributions: local education, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education, and sustainability. Parsley also provides employees with paid volunteer time off for approved Company events to further support engagement in our communities.

In 2019, Parsley launched our first formal community engagement platform, Parsley Culture Corner, to advocate for and support numerous charitable programs in the communities where we operate. The program incentivizes volunteering and engagement efforts by rewarding employees who volunteer with charitable dollars, which they can direct to an organization of their choice.

Parsley Culture Corner has become a huge success in its first year, with nearly 70% of employees participating. We harnessed the dedication of our employees to amplify our employee volunteer efforts and issued more than 200 small dollar contributions ($50 or under) to 125 charities in Austin and West Texas.

Parsley Culture Corner has become a huge success in its first year, with nearly 70% of employees participating.

We also champion various organizations that support and enhance local educational opportunities for children and youth. Parsley employees regularly participate with Communities in Schools Central Texas by volunteering as reading buddies and serve as mentors at Oak Springs Elementary in Austin, Texas. Our employees have committed time on a weekly basis to build relationships and trust with 2nd and 3rd grade students – grade years shown by studies to be the most pivotal to students’ long-term success and graduation rates.

Our business requires a highly trained workforce in the areas of STEM, and we continually support youth STEM programs that help students develop the necessary skills to meet the energy needs of today and the future. Additionally, our executive leaders serve on the boards of a number of regional technical and engineering schools and provide valuable guidance on the curriculum of these programs.

Parsley is a member of the Permian Strategic Partnership (PSP), which brings people, expertise, resources, and leadership together across West Texas and Southeast New Mexico on many important initiatives to strengthen local communities. The PSP’s mission is to support and improve the quality of life for Permian Basin residents through developing and implementing strategic plans that foster superior schools, safer roads, quality healthcare, affordable housing, and a trained workforce. As part of our commitment, we have contributed approximately $1 million to date (against our $10 million pledge) in support of causes outlined by the PSP. These include IDEA Public Schools, Hobbs Municipal Schools, and federal grant writing support. To learn more about PSP initiatives in 2019, visit the PSP website.

Parsley is deeply rooted in the communities where we operate, and we work to make our presence in the Permian Basin and beyond a positive one. We value our community partnerships and recognize the important role that engagement plays in the future of our industry.

We partner with several organizations to increase awareness and development of sustainable projects in our communities. Through our work with The Nature Conservancy, we aim to protect five of West Texas’ most critical freshwater sources and help preserve the Bracken Bat Cave in Central Texas.

In partnering with The Trail Foundation, Parsley employees help preserve urban greenspace by removing invasive plant species near our headquarters in downtown Austin. We work with the Trail Foundation and Keep Midland Beautiful TreeKeepers program to support restoration of critical habitats and plant native trees throughout Austin and West Texas.

Community and Inclusion Campaigns

Community Inclusion Icon Pride Logo Icon

Throughout 2019, Parsley led monthly inclusion campaigns to highlight not only our employees’ unique and strong backgrounds, but also connect their interests to our communities.

The #Leadingwomen campaign featured colleague nominations accompanied by stories of Parsley’s women employees leading in both our communities and the workplace. We conducted other inclusion campaigns to honor our veterans, highlight all of the different “Paths to Parsley”, and feature the different community groups to which our employees belong.

In 2019, Parsley’s Fun Committee initiated our second annual participation in the Austin Pride Parade. We doubled the number of employee participants, which included some of our senior executives. We also established a pride-branded Parsley logo for the event.

As a domestic provider of oil and natural gas, Parsley produces energy needed to power the U.S. economy, and contributes to America’s energy security by reducing our dependence on foreign oil. However, we recognize that oil and natural gas development activity also leads to challenges we must address as an industry.

In West Texas, we provide significant benefits to the local economy through job creation, but Parsley’s operations also have contributed to the increased cost of living and associated strain on public education, housing, and infrastructure. To mitigate these impacts, we pay significant taxes and royalties to the state of Texas. In 2019, Parsley paid over $172 million in state and local taxes and over $23 million in state and local royalties to help fund Texas schools, roads, and first responders. The oil and gas industry as a whole paid $16.3 billion in state and local taxes and royalties in 2019, representing the highest total in Texas history.
