At Parsley Energy, we’re proud to provide the most critical source of energy for today’s world – and we look forward to supporting tomorrow’s energy needs, as well.
Parsley goes beyond operating responsibly and fulfilling regulatory standards. We are stewards of our shared environmental resources. We limit or offset methane emissions, water consumption, and our carbon footprint. We help increase development and awareness of resilient environmental practices. We’re fueling a better future.
The following practices and technologies illustrate our commitment to safe, efficient, and sustainable operations:
Parsley began to install Vapor Recovery Units (VRU’s) to limit emissions in our first drilling program in 2010. Today, we’ve implemented a plan to install VRU’s on all new facilities. This exceeds state and federal environmental regulations and increases resource recovery.
Our leak detection and repair program (LDAR) uses state-of-the-art infrared emissions monitoring technology for fugitive emission surveys and annual audits.
We have developed an industry leading water pipeline infrastructure and salt water processing network that takes thousands of trucks off the road, and launched our pilot produced water reuse program in the Midland basin in spring 2018.
A step more efficient than zero emission controllers, we utilize low-bleed level controllers in place of high bleed devices to decrease production facility fugitive emissions that may traditionally escape SNAP acting devices.
We implement the most stringent standards to protect underground water resources, our wells often have three or four layers of steel and cement casing that ensure produced materials stay well away from environmentally sensitive areas.
Drilling contractors use auger and cuttings dryers on some of our drilling operations – this allows us to reduce production waste and reuse more produced water during operations.
To increase safety and limit impacts to local communities, we build on site truck staging lots and route deliveries to nighttime hours when possible.
Transitioning paper-intensive division orders processing to a paperless system. To offset a portion of our paper usage, we also plant trees in coordination with Keep Midland Beautiful.
Parsley’s operations, environmental standards, and safety record have received recognition among peers and within our communities.
Texas Mutual "Platinum Safety Partner” Parsley Energy is a 2017 recipient of the Texas Mutual award which recognizes company dedication to employee health and safety. Only 200 of 68,000 client companies received this recognition.
Environmental Defense Fund “High Performer” A 2017 report on natural gas flaring in 2015 compiled by the Environmental Defense Fund, lauded Parsley Energy as one of the, “high performers” and went on to say that, “there may be valuable lessons from these operators that should be applied throughout the Permian Basin.”
Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) Certified Our Austin headquarters is built to green building standards. It has sunlight harvesting sensors, LED light fixtures, motion sensor lights in all offices and joint spaces. We also use resource efficient faucets, paper towel dispensers in restrooms, and recycled cutlery, and reusable or compostable paper products in employee workrooms.
A deep and overriding commitment to safety and environmental responsibility pervades our operations and broader organizational culture, as expressed in our Health, Safety, and Environmental Mission Statement
